Montezemolo on Alonso, Massa and Melbourne

By Editor - 11 March 2013

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that Alonso "knows he has to win with us and we want to win with him. Fernando Alonso will respect the contract between him and the Italian team until 2015."

The optimistic president of the Scuderia expressed his belief in the team: "Ferrari is stronger now than in Brazil and forth coming upgrades will add even more improvement."

On Melbourne: "The first goal is to place in the top three, since we are aware that we have things to prepare for the next grand prix." added Luca.

"The second objective is to continue the correlation between work in wind tunnel and on the track, to ensure modifications to the F138 will work as expected."

He praised the Spaniard as being "calm and confident" and supported Fernando's decision to skip the fist test in Jerez, believing Alonso is now well prepared for the new season.

On the future of Felipe Massa, the Ferrari president remained coy, saying Felipe "will be helpful" to the team.

Whether or not this opens up the possibility for Massa to renew his contract, is yet to be seen. Given this is Alonso's fourth season with Ferrari, he must be eager to win a title with the red team. If Alonso is unable to clinch the 2013 WDC, he may push for Felipe to stay another year (as Nico Hulkenberg, a potential candidate for Massa's seat, may not be so helpful).
